MA/MS in Lithuanian Literature and Creative Writing

This master's programme prepares literary researchers and creative-writing specialists through two main study units: literature studies and creative writing. Literature studies move from a methods block covering philosophy and literature, new literary theories, and the sociology of literature, through general issues of literary theory such as the anthropology of reading, narrative theory, and the rhetorical tradition in Lithuanian literature, to a Lithuanian-literature meta-discourse block covering comparative studies, Latin literature in Lithuania, and orality and writing. The creative-writing unit develops practical skills across fiction, literary criticism, and literature communication, with no scheduled professional placement. Learning outcomes include analysing the genetics and history of literary texts from different periods, examining text structure and function within cultural and social context, applying literary theories and methodologies in individual research, and creating academic, critical, and journalistic texts for public communication. Graduates can pursue careers as literary critics or editors in media agencies and publishing houses.
