Overview

Joining a research team that addresses challenges like infection and the health of the environment is the core of this research masters. Students are placed in a research group or several, working with postdoctoral and postgraduate colleagues and exploring areas including the genetics and molecular side of biology. A large research project makes up the main part of the course and might involve materials for the body, medical devices, microbes, biochemistry, toxins in ecosystems or genes. Optional modules allow students to follow their own interests. Practical work uses an imaging suite housing electron microscopes, laboratories for ecology, and spaces for molecular biology and cell culture. Study lasts one year full-time or two years part-time. Applicants are normally expected to hold an upper second-class degree in a relevant subject.
