BA/BS in Sociology

Sociology at Adelphi asks students to study the forces behind inequality and to understand the lives of varied communities around the world, with a strong tradition of commitment to social justice. Graduates become counselors, mediators, social workers, health workers and policy or market analysts, or enter nonprofits, firms and the legal field. Small seminars encourage respectful discussion. Many classes include a hands-on research piece such as a survey or field observation, and students are urged to carry out personal investigations of topics tied to their career interests. The major trains empathy, careful listening, reasoning and data skills. A minor examines identity, culture and the ways social movements form, and a teacher-preparation option can add a master's degree after one extra year.
