AA/AS in Dance

Dance at Cabrillo College is part of the Creative Arts and Design area and treats dance both as a performing art and as an academic discipline. Instruction draws on movement traditions from many cultures and looks at dance as a cultural practice with social roles. The associate of arts includes pre-professional training in technique, performance, choreography and somatic education. Four-year colleges offer bachelor's and graduate degrees in performance, choreography, dance education, therapy, history and related fields, leading to specialties such as arts administration, therapy for dancers and teaching dance to children and seniors. Students perform in an annual spring concert at the campus theater, featuring fresh pieces from student and faculty choreographers spanning contemporary, folklorico and hip hop styles. Prospective students can speak with the department or a counselor to plan their coursework and confirm how credits transfer.
