PGCert in Special Education and Teaching

This credential program authorizes holders to assess learners, teach them and provide special education services for students whose support needs range from mild to extensive, from kindergarten through grade 12 and up to age 22. Candidates complete coursework and practica covering federal disability categories and varying support needs, and finish with two credentials: mild/moderate support needs and extensive support needs. Four pathways lead to the Preliminary Education Specialist Credential. The traditional pathway is a post-bachelor's preservice route with two supervised practica. The intern pathway is a two-year route for working teachers of record, requiring at least 6 units each semester along with practicum seminars. The Accelerated Collaborative Teacher Residency is a full-time one-year cohort program running Fall and Spring. Advising for each comes from the Department of Special Education.
