Religion is a campus-based major or minor at Central Michigan University with a B.S. or B.A. as the degree. Requirements fall between 20 and 30 hours.
The approach is interdisciplinary. Students draw on history, anthropology, sociology and the close study of texts to explore how faith and spirituality influence politics, justice and culture. Critical reading and writing are stressed, as is a wide view of global societies and the ethical issues they face.
Cooperative study-abroad arrangements make it possible to study in India, Japan or Israel. Courses taken in history, philosophy and English may count toward the major. Former students go on to careers in teaching, legal practice, creative fields, medical practice, ministry, chaplaincy or diplomacy. Classes are held on the Main Campus, with starts in fall and spring.
