PhD in Education, General

The learning sciences doctorate is a research degree about how people learn. It examines the settings, methods and learner characteristics found across many types of learning environment. The program suits people who want practical and conceptual training for careers as faculty on the tenure track, scientists, developers, designers of instruction or practitioners in professional, nonprofit and academic settings. Faculty expertise spans learning technology, psychology applied to education, and advanced approaches to research. Students may ask which strategies help learners succeed in different subjects, what mental processes support learning, how social and situational factors matter, how digital media can support thinking, and how complex learning is studied. Graduates may work in universities, corporations, schools or the military, in roles from evaluation and assessment to curriculum and game design.
