AA/AS in Communication and Media Studies

This transfer degree gives Cuyamaca College students a wide grounding in communication studies and prepares them to move on to a California State University campus. It targets careers where public contact and spoken skills matter, such as community service, sales, performing arts and teaching. Students take courses in public speaking and interpersonal communication, then choose from options in mass communication, intercultural communication, group communication and argumentation. They practice analyzing verbal communication and strengthening their own speaking. Completing the associate degree for transfer requires the full set of transferable units, a minimum grade in each major course, and the general education pattern for California transfer students. Planning ahead matters with a transfer degree. Students are advised to meet with a counselor early, lay out the major courses term by term, and confirm how each class will be treated by the university they hope to attend next. Those steps keep the path to transfer on schedule.
