Overview

Applied Mathematical Economics is a joint major offered by the Economics and Mathematics departments, so students receive the strengths of each discipline. It teaches the quantitative methods behind modern economic analysis and the real problems that firms and consumers face. Practical learning comes from internships, faculty research partnerships, case competitions, student clubs and service projects. These experiences prepare graduates for careers in economics, data work and public policy, among others. The education is rooted in values and social justice, so students learn to understand the economy and to shape it responsibly. The major suits people already studying economics, mathematics or engineering. A leadership program starting in the sophomore year can add a leadership concentration to the degree. The page also lists the classes students will take.
