AA/AS in Chemistry

Chemistry at MiraCosta College investigates what matter is made of and how it behaves and changes, especially at the atomic and molecular scale. Students enroll to get ready for a major in the subject, to meet general education requirements, and to satisfy prerequisites elsewhere in the curriculum. An academic map is published on the program page to show the classes involved. The college encourages students to work with a counselor, since transfer expectations differ between universities. Career directions mentioned span medicine, health, engineering, industry, government, the environment and teaching. Students without a year of high school chemistry can try a challenge exam, and the SALSA program offers help with science and laboratory skills. The department lists its faculty, building location and contacts on the same page, and the page links to neighboring science programs.
