BA/BS in Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies, Other

The Special Major is for students whose interests cross departmental lines in an area where no interdisciplinary major exists. A student designs a plan that draws on two or more departments. The plan is built in close consultation with faculty advisors and must be academically rigorous. The dean responsible for seniors gives final approval before the major is established. Each year a small group of students graduates with a self-designed major. Past examples range from biomathematics and neurochemistry to urban studies, wildlife biology, musical theater and psycholinguistics. The program leads to a Bachelor of Arts and is coordinated through the Associate Dean of Studies, with a student success coordinator available to answer questions. Interested students are encouraged to contact the office early to talk through how a proposed plan could fit together.
