BA/BS in Fine and Studio Arts

Art, at the B.A. level, is a liberal arts degree split into two concentrations, one in studio art and one in art history. The studio concentration exposes students to a wide array of art and design media, supplies a firm grounding in art history and permits extended emphasis on a single medium. Majors gain breadth across several studio disciplines, and classes stress both technique and ideas. Critiques serve as the main vehicle for evaluation, analysis and discussion, and they are adjusted to the level of each course. Students may exhibit their work in several student shows every semester, including an annual juried exhibition hosted by the gallery in the Fine Arts Center. The Northeastern Art + Design Association, a student organization, often organizes and installs shows on campus. Every major mounts a senior capstone exhibition. Among the studio areas are ceramics, drawing and art and technology. The academic catalog lists the required courses, and the department offers a phone number for questions from prospective students.
