Cert in Fine and Studio Arts

The Studio Art Certificate of Achievement suits students who want to move into programs centered on making fine art, or who hope to work as visual artists. Suitable transfer destinations include traditional studio programs such as drawing, painting and ceramics, as well as photography and digital media with a fine arts focus. Students create a portfolio of original work and prepare pieces for exhibition. They gain skill with the tools and materials of a studio discipline and learn to analyze the formal and social content of artworks in speech and writing. The core includes foundation drawing and a survey of Western art from the Renaissance to the present, followed by studio electives, for eighteen units. Completion does not guarantee university acceptance, so students should research target institutions and speak with visual arts faculty and a counselor.
