BA/BS in Applied Mathematics

This flexible degree in Arts and Sciences surveys the wide uses of mathematics and the computing techniques that fuel technological advances. A mentorship program matches students with faculty advisors and graduate students for one-on-one help. Students can belong to Pi Mu Epsilon, the honor society founded at Syracuse, and get coaching for a famous undergraduate contest or the graduate admission test. A senior seminar lets small groups work through advanced topics. Students may do research under a professor and apply for summer funding. A reading program pairs undergraduates with graduate mentors for a term. Department research covers algebra, analysis, combinatorics, geometry, topology, math education, probability and statistics, offering many directions for undergraduates, and students also build skills for the senior seminar and for preparing for external exams.
