BA/BS in Mathematics

Billed as the most adaptable math major at Syracuse, this degree lets students shape their studies around the parts of mathematics they enjoy most. It belongs to the Arts and Sciences college. Following introductory requirements, students take advanced classes in analysis, algebra, finite math, applied analysis, probability and statistics. Outcomes include skill in calculus of one and several variables and in linear algebra, clear explanation of mathematical ideas and correct computation by hand and with technology. A mentorship program connects students to faculty advisors and graduate students. The Pi Mu Epsilon honor society began at Syracuse, and advisors coach students for the Putnam competition or graduate admission exam. A senior seminar covers advanced topics, research with faculty is possible, and summer funding can be requested.
