Overview
This engineering major applies technical methods to human performance and medicine, leading toward work on medical devices, drugs and other areas of global health care.
Students tailor their studies toward industry, research or a pre-medical route, and electives can satisfy the admission expectations of medical schools. Research partners include the Syracuse BioInspired Institute, the upstate medical university and a state institute devoted to human performance. Students can take part in a biomedical society and a global health engineering group.
A five-year dual degree adds an MBA from the management school, and a 4+1 plan yields a graduate degree in biomedical engineering a year after the bachelor's. The program carries ABET accreditation, and graduates join Medtronic, Stryker, Boston Scientific, Merck and others.
