Overview
Biology covers living things from molecules and cells to whole organisms and ecosystems. Students may earn a B.A. or B.S. and focus through specialized tracks.
Seminars are small, so students come to know faculty and their research. Study looks at life at the molecular, cellular, individual, community and global levels, and students are encouraged to do independent research or internships. Outcomes include applying numerical methods to biological questions, recognizing the main theories of the major subfields and communicating in speech and writing. A greenhouse inside the Life Sciences Complex supports year-round plant and insect studies.
A peer mentoring program gives advice to newcomers, who later mentor others. Honor societies, a biotechnology club and a pre-health society add academic and social support.
