— it helps other students.
This two-year diploma covers the full range of skills used in library and information management, balancing technical services such as collecting, processing and organising materials with public-facing work helping clients find and use information resources. Teaching keeps pace with current technologies and trends in the field so that graduates are ready to step directly into the workplace.
Small class sizes and instructors with direct industry experience support hands-on classroom learning, complemented by field placements in settings such as schools, public, government or academic libraries, and archives or records and information management organisations. These placements help students build practical experience and industry connections ahead of graduation.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Algonquin's College Eligibility applies first: an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or Mature Student status (19 or older without a diploma, subject to a fee-based academic achievement test). On top of that, this diploma's own Program Eligibility asks for Grade 12 English (ENG4C or equivalent) at 65% or higher. International or non-Canadian transcripts are assessed through ICAS or WES, and the program's published English-proficiency scale is IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no band below 6.0, OR TOEFL iBT overall 88 with a minimum of 22 per component for tests before 21 January 2026 (a rescaled overall 4.5 with a 4.5 component minimum applies to tests from that date, per the same page), OR Duolingo English Test overall 120 with at least 120 in Literacy and no score below 105. If applications exceed seats, offers go by English proficiency.
Application Details
Start Date:September
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for September 2027 entry the application portal opens 26 September 2026, the equal consideration date is 1 February 2027, and offers must be accepted by 1 May 2027, while later applications are still assessed as space allows; Algonquin publishes no separate equal-consideration date for the January 2027 intake. International applicants apply directly via Algonquin's own International Application Portal, not ontariocolleges.ca; instead of one fixed date the college posts a program-by-program closing-date list shortly before each term starts - for Fall 2026 most programs closed 16 September 2026, technology programs by 9-10 September; no Winter 2027 or Fall 2027 international list has been posted yet, so admission remains effectively rolling until each list is published and fills. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
