Program details

Overview

Library and Information Technician is a part-time Ontario College Diploma from Conestoga's continuing education division, led by experienced librarians. Combining theory and hands-on practice, students learn to acquire, organize, produce, retrieve and disseminate information in print and electronic formats, preparing for employment in academic, public, school and special libraries and other information-service settings. All courses must be completed within seven years of acceptance into the program.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Conestoga's Library and Information Technician diploma requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma at the general or advanced level, or equivalent, or mature student status for applicants 19 years of age or older by the program start. The stated English prerequisite is Grade 12 Compulsory English at the C or U level, or equivalent. The program's own admissions page does not separately publish an IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo or CAEL score, so applicants whose prior education was not in English rely on Conestoga's institution-wide requirement that non-Canadian and non-English-instruction transcripts be assessed by a credential-evaluation service such as ICAS or WES, with proof of English proficiency judged against the college's general admission standard. No portfolio, interview, minimum grade average beyond the stated English course, prior work-experience threshold, or background-check condition is listed for this diploma; applicants are assessed against these published academic and language conditions before an offer is made.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca (college code CONS): for the Fall 2027 intake the online application opens 26 September 2026, the equal consideration date is 1 February 2027, offers may be issued from 1 November 2026, and accepted offers must be confirmed by 1 May 2027; most oversubscribed programs stop accepting applications after 1 February 2027, though many programs remain open afterward. Conestoga does not publish a separate equal-consideration date for its January intake. International applicants apply directly to Conestoga and are assessed on a rolling, first-come, first-served basis until each program fills; no fixed international closing date is published. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
