Photonics Engineering Technology is a three-year Ontario College Advanced Diploma preparing students to design and build technologies powered by light. The curriculum develops skills in photonics, AI-enabled vision systems, optical communications, sensing, and automation, applied across telecommunications, healthcare, aerospace, and defense sectors. Students gain hands-on experience with industry-standard equipment, including optical communication systems, working on practical projects in labs and real-world settings that mirror the tools used by employers in the photonics industry. The program combines theoretical foundations in optics and electronics with applied technical training, and entry requires Grade 12 English and either Grade 12 or Grade 11 college-stream mathematics. Graduates are prepared for technologist roles in photonics and optical-systems industries such as fibre-optic communications, laser-based sensing, and imaging systems, building on knowledge of electrical and computer systems.
