Bow Valley College's Pharmacy Technician Diploma is a four-term, full-time program that prepares students to prepare compounds and sterile products and to dispense medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The program includes both community and hospital practicum placements, giving students direct clinical experience alongside more than 350 hours of lab-based training in a facility equipped with certified sterile production hoods and a PACMED high-speed automated medication packager. The program holds Full Accreditation Status with the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs and prepares graduates to pursue national certification as a pharmacy technician. Coursework covers pharmacology, compounding, sterile product preparation, dispensing procedures, and pharmacy operations in both community and institutional settings. Graduates are prepared for regulated pharmacy technician roles in community pharmacies, hospitals, and other healthcare settings across Canada, working alongside pharmacists and other members of the healthcare team.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 60% in English Language Arts 30-1, or 70% in English Language Arts 30-2, or equivalent, and a minimum of 60% in Math 30-1 or Math 30-2, Biology 30, and Chemistry 30, or equivalents. A keyboarding speed of at least 30 words per minute, comfort with computers, basic math skills, manual dexterity, and attention to detail are recommended. Applicants whose first language is not English must also meet the college's English language proficiency requirements, which for this program require IELTS Academic component scores of at least Reading 7.0, Listening 7.0, Speaking 7.0, and Writing 6.5; TOEFL and PTE Academic are not accepted for this program.
