Overview

This diploma program at New Brunswick Community College, accredited by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs, takes two academic years of full-time study in blended delivery, combining classroom, laboratory and simulation activities with applied workplace experience in hospital and community pharmacies. Coursework covers pharmaceutical fundamentals, community and hospital pharmacy practice, sterile and non-sterile compounding, pharmacology and therapeutics, pharmacy law and ethics, calculations, inventory management and professional communication, including specific courses in anatomy and physiology, pharmaceutical legislation, aseptic compounding and injection administration. Students complete two practicum placements, one in a community pharmacy setting and one in a hospital pharmacy, both under the direct supervision of licensed practitioners. The program runs at the Moncton campus from September 2026 and at the Saint John campus from September 2027, offered there every other year. Admission requires a high school diploma or equivalent, Foundations of Mathematics 110, and Biology 112 or 122 or a chemistry equivalent. It suits students seeking entry-level pharmacy technician roles supporting community and hospital pharmacy practice amid growing demand tied to an aging population.
