The Construction Drawings Associate Certificate is a fully online, part-time Flexible Learning program covering the production of construction drawings for commercial, residential, and industrial buildings. It is intended for those entering the field of technical drafting as well as construction industry professionals seeking further professional development. The program consists of seven courses covering the technical aspects of developing construction drawings from concept sketches, design information, codes, and specifications, giving students knowledge of structural components and the skills to translate technical information into accurate construction drawings. Learning methods include lectures, self-guided study, project work, virtual laboratory classes, and group collaboration. New courses start in September, January, and April on BCIT's Flexible Learning intake schedule. Admission requires English language proficiency at BCIT's Category 3 level (English Studies 12 at 50% or equivalent); good hand-eye coordination, spatial visualization, and prior CAD or drafting experience are recommended but not required. The program is open to international applicants with a valid status in Canada other than a study permit, but does not meet the field-of-study requirement for a Post-Graduation Work Permit.
