Overview
The Civil Engineering Diploma focuses on engineering fundamentals that will prepare you for a career working on the planning, design and construction of municipal works, residential development, industrial and commercial buildings, highways, environmental protection work and other types of projects. You'll apply the fundamentals that you learn to real-world design scenarios and strengthen your graphical, written, and oral communication skills. A significant amount of time in the program is directly related to hands-on-training in material testing, surveying, manual and computer-aided drafting, and instruction in the use of engineering software tools.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: BCIT awards this diploma only along the path into the Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering, so entry follows that program's requirements: Pre-Calculus 12 at 73% (or an accepted BC/Yukon equivalent), Chemistry 11 at 73%, Physics 12 at 73%, one further approved Grade 12 academic course at 73%, and English Studies 12 at 73% or equivalent (BCIT's Category 1 standard). Applicants must also complete a Mandatory Applicant Questionnaire. Admission is competitive: BCIT first checks applicants against these minimums, then ranks qualifying applications by academic performance and recency of coursework. A 70% continuation GPA and 300 hours of practical work experience are required later, to progress from the diploma into the bachelor's degree itself, not for initial admission.

Application Deadline:BCIT publishes common credential application dates for most cohort-based diplomas, degrees and Flexible Learning routes, though each program's own page governs: for the January 2027 intake domestic applications run 1 February 2026 to 2 January 2027 and international to 1 November 2026; for the April 2027 intake domestic runs 1 May 2026 to 1 April 2027 and international to 1 February 2027; for September 2027 domestic applications open 1 October 2026 and close 1 September 2027, international 2 July 2027. Openings are 9:00 am and deadlines 11:59 pm Pacific Time, moving to the next business day on a weekend. Admission is not institute-wide rolling, but many programs work first-qualified-first-accepted and can fill before the posted deadline, and several programs, mostly in Health Sciences, trades and graduate studies, run entirely separate application tables of their own. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
