Program details
Overview
Applied Circular Economy: Zero Waste Buildings will train professionals who can deliver the low-impact buildings needed to achieve net-zero targets. The micro-credential will consist of three courses: Deconstruction (material recovery and working with salvage); Design for Disassembly (the principles of DfD and Cradle to Cradle (C2C); and Construction Material Flow Analysis (understanding the industry and the path of materials through it). The program is open to anyone from Construction or building design fields, graduates of Environmental Engineering or related fields, or those employed in or with experience in building trades and construction (ability to read building plans and specifications).
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This micro-credential has no formal application; BCIT states applicants register for its three required courses (XCIR 7510, 7520 and 7530) individually, each carrying no academic prerequisite, and email the program contact with their name, student number and mailing address once all three are complete. BCIT recommends, without requiring, a background in Construction or Building Design, a degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field, or employment and experience in building trades and construction with the ability to read building plans and specifications. No minimum GPA or English/French language test score is published. International applicants may enrol if studying from outside Canada or holding valid Canadian status other than a study permit, but BCIT states a study permit does not qualify a student for this program.

Start Date:September, January and April
Application Deadline:BCIT publishes common credential application dates for most cohort-based diplomas, degrees and Flexible Learning routes, though each program's own page governs: for the January 2027 intake domestic applications run 1 February 2026 to 2 January 2027 and international to 1 November 2026; for the April 2027 intake domestic runs 1 May 2026 to 1 April 2027 and international to 1 February 2027; for September 2027 domestic applications open 1 October 2026 and close 1 September 2027, international 2 July 2027. Openings are 9:00 am and deadlines 11:59 pm Pacific Time, moving to the next business day on a weekend. Admission is not institute-wide rolling, but many programs work first-qualified-first-accepted and can fill before the posted deadline, and several programs, mostly in Health Sciences, trades and graduate studies, run entirely separate application tables of their own. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
