Media and Communication Studies is a Bachelor of Arts program at Brock University's Faculty of Social Sciences that examines how media and communication intersect with culture, politics, economics and technology. The program is structured around four interconnected areas: media industries, content, audiences and policy, reflecting the view that media operates as an interconnected web rather than a set of separate topics. Students can choose specialist courses such as Sports Media, Data and Society, Food Media or Environmental Media, and draw on multiple disciplines including sociology, psychology, politics, economics, screen studies, law and digital culture. The program develops skills in critical thinking, research design and clear communication through a fourth-year work placement course, applied projects and case studies, an annual case competition and volunteering with BrockTV. Minors are available in Media Studies, Digital Culture or Popular Culture. Graduates pursue roles in content creation and production, social media and digital marketing, communication and public relations, media planning, analysis and research, and events and experience management.
