The Sustainability Science PhD at Brock University is a doctoral program offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences that combines rigorous scientific practice with the study of linkages between humans and the environment. It takes a transdisciplinary approach to critical social-environmental challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss and social inequality, aiming to develop scientists who can formulate and implement solutions supporting decision-making and policy. The program consists of two terms of core and elective coursework, one term for a comprehensive examination, one term for research proposal development, seven terms of dissertation writing, and a final term for submission and defence of the dissertation. Admission requires transcripts, three academic references, a written statement of intent, a curriculum vitae, and the name of a core faculty member who has agreed to supervise the student's research. The program runs for 12 terms (four years) of full-time study, with a single intake each September and an application deadline of January 15. The degree is awarded as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
