English, Associate of Arts Degree

The English, Associate of Arts Degree is a two-year, full-time or part-time program at Camosun College leading to a stand-alone Associate Degree made up of 20 university-level courses. Students study literature across genres, periods and cultural perspectives, from early writing to contemporary works, including classic English, Canadian, American, Indigenous and Women's literature in forms ranging from novels and poetry to plays, film and non-literary texts. Coursework builds reading, analysis, critical thinking and academic writing skills, alongside written and oral communication for a range of purposes and audiences. The program offers flexible scheduling and course selection to prepare students for transfer into a university degree, with pathways into a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature or Education, a professional writing minor, or further graduate study, including an interdisciplinary MA/PhD in Cultural, Social and Political Thought at the University of Victoria and a full block transfer into Royal Roads University's Bachelor of Arts in Professional Communication.
