Overview

This Bachelor of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies covers Scripture, theology, Christian history, and the practical dimensions of religious commitment, examining how differing interpretations have shaped various Christian traditions. Coursework develops close textual analysis, theological reasoning, clear writing, and dialogue skills, connecting classroom study of biblical and historical texts to their contemporary cultural relevance. As with other undergraduate programs at Canadian Mennonite University, the degree includes a mandatory work-integrated learning placement, which students in this program typically complete in faith-based nonprofits, churches, interfaith organizations, or supervised ministry settings, linking academic study to practical experience. The program is delivered on campus in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It is designed for a range of students - those considering ministry, community work, or education careers, as well as those simply seeking a deeper understanding of Christianity's historical and contemporary significance - and the university states it welcomes students regardless of background or belief. Graduates commonly move into ministry, chaplaincy, education, nonprofit leadership, or community-engagement roles, or continue into graduate theological study. The combination of academic biblical and theological training with a required placement distinguishes it from a purely classroom-based religious studies degree.
