Biochemistry is a Bachelor's Degree programme in Carleton University's Faculty of Science. Students examine how organisms function by investigating enzyme reactions, mechanisms of gene regulation, chemical signalling pathways and cellular structure at the molecular level, connecting this study to issues such as understanding and treating disease, improving access to nutritious food, and addressing contaminated land and water. Teaching draws on experiential learning, active learning practices and authentic assessment to build a student-centred experience, supported by faculty recognized for teaching and research. A Co-op option is available, giving students the opportunity to complete paid work terms and get a head start on a career alongside their studies. The programme is designed for students interested in the molecular basis of biological processes, preparing graduates for further study or careers in fields such as health, biotechnology and research that draw on laboratory and analytical skills developed throughout the degree.
