Anthropology at Carleton University is offered as a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree (20.0 credits) through the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, specializing in socio-cultural anthropology. The program focuses on the study of contemporary societies and cultures through direct engagement, participant-observation, and other qualitative research methods, developing student competencies in writing, research, analysis, and interpretation of human experience across cultures. Faculty research areas include Indigenous studies, environmental issues, transnational migration, identity, gender and sexuality, and political economy across multiple global regions. Students may pursue co-op placements, field placements, or an independent honours research paper. Admission requires the Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, including six 4U or M courses with a 4U course in English, and an overall average of at least 70 percent is normally required for consideration.
