Communication and Media Studies is a Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies (BCoMS) offered by Carleton University's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Core courses cover media industries, users, technologies and policies, building critical thinking, research and communication skills through experiential learning, community-engaged courses and media practice workshops such as digital media production, social media analytics, public engagement and event management. Students choose from three optional concentrations: Government and Professional Communication; Media and Entertainment Industries; and Public Engagement and Civic Culture, and may add a Certificate in Science Communication or a minor to the Honours degree. A combined honours with Public Affairs and Policy Management is also available. A Co-op option provides work terms for employability skill development and workplace experience, and students may pursue an independent research project with a faculty member or an international exchange. The programme is based in Ottawa, with access to the student-led Carleton Communications Society.
