This program leads to a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry at Carleton University, offered through the Ottawa-Carleton Chemistry Institute, a joint graduate program with the University of Ottawa covering all areas of chemistry, including biochemistry, analytical, inorganic, organic, physical and theoretical chemistry. Students enrol at the university where their research supervisor is based, and some conduct research off campus under the supervision of an Institute adjunct professor. Carleton has particular research strength in Food Science, Analytical Chemistry and Nanoscience, and Collaborative Specializations in Biochemistry and in Chemical and Environmental Toxicology are available. Exceptional applicants with an undergraduate degree may be considered for direct entry into the PhD without first completing a master's degree. The program is thesis-based and normally takes four years to complete on a full-time basis, with admission for the Fall or Summer term.
