PGDip in Work and Labour

Carleton University's Graduate Diploma in Work and Labour is offered through the Institute of Political Economy as an add-on credential for students already enrolled in a Carleton graduate degree program. The diploma examines work and labour issues in relation to gender, race, colonialism, globalization, environment, and technological change, with particular attention to labour movements and the role of trade unions in addressing social and economic inequality. It comprises 2.5 credits across five courses: the required course Political Economy of Work and Labour, one special-topics course in work and labour, either a workplace placement in political economy or a reflective practice course, and one credit of approved elective courses from cognate disciplines. The placement option provides experiential learning, allowing students to earn academic credit for workplace-based research conducted under professional supervision. The diploma is not available to students enrolled in the MA in Political Economy. Admission occurs in the Fall term only, with applications due August 1.
