Overview

Histoire et civilisation (700.B0) is a two-year pre-university DEC that examines Western civilization and the wider human experience through history, mythology, science, religion, culture, and the history of art. Students study ancient civilizations, non-Western cultures, and contemporary global change, developing skills in historical analysis, humanities research drawing on sociology, anthropology, economics, and geography, philosophical reasoning, cultural comparison, and structured argumentation. Four courses are co-taught by instructors from different disciplines, and the program includes international educational travel, such as a trip to Italy, along with outings to museums, exhibitions, and sites of religious or historical significance. Admission requires Secondary 4 Mathematics, Culture, société et technique, and the program is also open for winter-session admission on a five-semester pathway. It suits students drawn to the humanities who want to understand the present through a rigorous study of the past across multiple disciplines. Graduates commonly continue into university programs in history, political science, sociology, philosophy, international studies, communications, journalism, law, and teaching, among other fields in the humanities and social sciences.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission follows Cegep de Levis's general college requirements: a Quebec Diploma of Secondary Studies (DES) or Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP), equivalent training recognized by the college, or sufficient training and experience after at least 24 cumulative months away from full-time study. The Histoire et civilisation programme adds one specific prerequisite, Mathematiques Culture, societe et technique 4e, completed at the secondary level. Applicants admitted on a DEP must also have completed Secondary V language of instruction, Secondary V second language, and Secondary IV mathematics. Instruction is in French; the programme page does not publish a separate English or French proficiency test score, the DES or DEP itself certifying the language of instruction. No portfolio, interview, or other condition is stated.

Application Details

Start Date: Fall and Winter
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through the Service regional d'admission au collegial de Quebec (SRACQ) in rounds: for Fall 2027 entry the first-round deadline is 1 March 2027 (recommended for contingented programmes), with further rounds on 1 May, 1 June and 1 August, and late registration still possible by appointment afterward; Winter 2027 entry has round deadlines of 1 November 2026, 1 December 2026, 2 January 2027 and 12 January 2027. International applicants apply through the same SRACQ process but the college publishes no fixed international closing date, only post-admission steps such as a 5,000 CAD tuition deposit and a CAQ/study permit process that can take 12 or more weeks. Admission runs through successive rounds rather than a single hard cutoff, so later applicants are still considered while seats remain. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
