Diploma in Histoire et civilisation

Histoire et civilisation is a pre-university DEC at Collège de Rosemont taking an in-depth look at historical phenomena that shape current events, through eight dedicated history courses, more than any other Quebec college program, covering the ancient world, the Arab world, Asia, and the Americas, with a focus on 20th-century diplomatic and sociocultural history. The curriculum spans political thought, scientific developments, artistic movements, and religious traditions across several civilizations. Students collaborate on an original exhibition displayed on the college's virtual museum, and learn outside the classroom through visits to museums and places of worship, theatre outings, and guest lectures. An international option lets students take part in a credited archaeological field placement at Argilos, an ancient Greek city on the Aegean coast, joining a University of Montreal-led international team excavating a 2,500-year-old site. A DEC-BAC agreement with the Université de Montréal's history department grants up to two credited courses toward a bachelor's degree in history, plus access to department-led activities and campus visits. Admission requires a secondary diploma with a mathematics prerequisite. It suits students interested in university studies in history, archaeology, political science, or related humanities fields; the college reports a 100% university-admission rate for the program.
