Overview
This program (Techniques de laboratoire, specialization Chimie analytique) trains laboratory technicians to analyze the composition of cosmetics, food, soil, water, and industrial materials, and to test samples using precision equipment for quality and safety control. Roughly 60 percent of instructional time is spent on laboratory work, using facilities valued at more than $2 million and equipped to industry standards. Students prepare laboratory materials and products, run analyses, and carry out quality-control testing across sectors including industrial chemistry, the environment, agri-food, and pharmaceuticals. The three-year Diploma of College Studies (DEC) includes an optional internship of three weeks in Quebec or eight weeks abroad, and DEC-BAC agreements allow credit transfer into related university bachelor's programs. Graduates can enter the workforce directly as analytical chemistry technicians or continue to university studies in chemistry or related sciences.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need a DES, a DEP, training judged equivalent by the cégep, or at least 24 cumulative months of interrupted full-time study with sufficient training and experience. DEP holders must also have passed Secondary 5 language of instruction, Secondary 5 second language, and Secondary 4 mathematics. Direct entry from secondary school additionally requires Secondary 5 Technical-Science or Science mathematics and Secondary 5 chemistry.
