Overview
Techniques policieres (Police Technology) is a three-year Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) technical program at Cegep de Rimouski that prepares students for patrol police work in Quebec. Across six semesters, the curriculum covers criminal law, provincial regulations and municipal bylaws, criminological analysis and investigation techniques, physical intervention and self-defence, community policing, crisis intervention, responses to mental health and substance-use situations, evidence handling and testimony, and practical driving and accident investigation, supported by realistic intervention simulations throughout. A sensitization placement in the second year provides field experience. On graduating, students must complete a mandatory 15-week program at Quebec's national police training school before becoming certified patrol officers. Admission requires a Secondary V diploma with mathematics at the science/technology level, passing a 12-minute run and a 25-metre swim test, and holding or working toward a driver's licence; the program does not admit international students and gives regional preference to candidates from areas east of Montmagny or Tadoussac. Graduates pursue roles such as patrol officer, correctional agent, security officer, customs agent or government investigator.

Admission Requirements: This is a contingent program with 90 places, run through Quebec's collegial admissions portal (SRACQ). Required: a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) or its equivalent, plus Mathematics under the Culture, société et technique sequence (4th year secondary); applicants missing this prerequisite may enter through the Tremplin DEC pathway. Selection is competitive: an initial cut uses academic record (SRACQ combined index) and regional origin (east of Montmagny on the south shore, or Tadoussac on the north shore); shortlisted applicants then sit physical-fitness selection tests (a 12-minute Cooper run and a 25-metre swim), and final ranking weighs academic record 50%, the run 35%, and the swim 15%. Five places are reserved for visible minorities, First Nations, Inuit, and ethnic minorities under an equal-access program. Placement sites may run a criminal background check. This program does not accept applications from international candidates. No language-proficiency test is published.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through the Service regional d'admission au collegial de Quebec (SRACQ): for Fall 2027 entry the first-round deadline is 1 March 2027, with further rounds in May, June and August, and for Winter 2027 entry the first-round deadline is 1 November 2026, with further rounds in December and January. International applicants apply through SRACQ's separate international-student portal, but Cegep de Rimouski publishes no fixed international closing date, and requires a 7,000 CAD pre-admission deposit before issuing an admission letter. Domestic admission proceeds through successive SRACQ rounds rather than one hard cutoff, so later applicants are still considered while seats remain; no international deadline is published. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
