Overview
Technologie du génie civil is a technical DEC that trains graduates for varied civil-engineering-technology tasks, including technical design for construction or rehabilitation of structures and road or municipal infrastructure, worksite organization and follow-up, surveying, soil analysis, materials analysis and fabrication, inspection of civil-engineering works, and project cost estimation. Graduates typically go on to work with engineering-consulting firms, building and road-infrastructure construction companies, materials manufacturers, municipalities, government services, and civil-engineering testing laboratories. Training uses laboratories for testing asphalt mixes, cement concrete, materials, and soils, and includes a workplace-learning project (apprentissage en milieu de travail) with industry partners starting from the first term, giving an early view of the different facets of civil-engineering work. Students carry out surveying and infrastructure-inspection work using modern digital equipment and learn advanced 3D modelling through AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit. The program includes a credited work placement (stage) and a laptop program with free software and technical support, and incorporates environmentally conscious practices into construction methods and materials.
