Overview
Nuclear Medicine Technology (142.F0) is a three-year, six-session Diploma of College Studies (DEC) offered at Cegep de Sainte-Foy, with intake in the Fall term only. The program trains nuclear medicine technologists to prepare and administer radioactive substances and to operate specialized imaging equipment for diagnostic examinations, covering anatomy and physiology, radiopharmacology, safety protocols, imaging technique, equipment operation, data processing, and patient care. Training includes two credited clinical placements and is delivered in part on-site at CHU de Québec-Université Laval, giving students direct exposure to a hospital practice setting. Graduates work primarily in hospital centres, preparing and measuring radioactive substances, administering them to patients, and operating detection equipment to produce and record diagnostic images. Ministry of Health and Social Services study bursaries of up to $12,000 are available to eligible graduates upon completion of the program.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires meeting Cegep de Sainte-Foy's general CEGEP admission conditions, as published on the college's admission page, plus a mathematics and chemistry prerequisite: Secondary 5 TS or SN Mathematics and Secondary 5 Chemistry, or, under the older curriculum, Mathematics 526 and Chemistry 534. Selection is based on the quality of the applicant's academic record, and candidates meeting the admission requirements are generally admitted. No French or English language-proficiency test is stated. The program is offered starting in the Fall term only.
