Overview
This 2.5-year diploma prepares students to work as nuclear medicine technologists, covering radiobiology, radiation protection, radiopharmaceuticals, patient imaging procedures, diagnostic CT imaging, human anatomy and physiology, phlebotomy, IV access and clinical pathophysiology. Students learn to operate diagnostic software and equipment used to measure and image radioactivity and apply their skills in clinical settings across nuclear medicine departments during practicum rotations. The curriculum also covers therapeutic (theranostic) techniques and the quality, safety and functioning of nuclear medicine equipment and procedures, alongside communication skills for interacting with patients undergoing diagnostic and treatment procedures. Delivery is blended, combining Main Campus and online instruction. Graduates who become certified and licensed can work as nuclear medicine technologists in settings including hospitals, community clinics and radiopharmacies across Canada.

Admission Requirements: Applicants educated in Canada must demonstrate English language proficiency and meet the following requirements or equivalents, with a combined average of 75%: at least 70% in Math 30-1 or at least 75% in Math 30-2; at least 70% in English Language Arts 30-1; at least 70% in Chemistry 30; and at least 70% in Biology 30, Physics 30, or Math 31. Applicants must also achieve a mark of 50% or higher in the School of Health and Public Safety's entrance testing process. SAIT accepts high school course equivalents for applicants educated outside Alberta. Applicants educated outside of Canada must demonstrate English language proficiency and provide proof of meeting program admission requirements through an international document assessment.
