Overview
This 2.5-year diploma combines theoretical instruction, clinical skills training and practicum rotations across three radiology departments to prepare students as radiologic technologists. Coursework covers patient positioning, operation and maintenance of X-ray equipment, digital image production, human anatomy and disease, CT imaging and interpretation, radiation protection, and quality control protocols in radiologic technology. Students also develop professional conduct and patient care practices, along with exposure to specialized imaging processes such as interventional procedures, MRI and ultrasound. Delivery is blended, combining Main Campus and online instruction, with some semesters combining full-time and part-time study while students complete clinical practicum. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in hospitals and community clinics, with potential to specialize in general X-ray, interventional radiography, computed tomography or mammography, and to pursue management or education roles in the field.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants educated in Canada must demonstrate English language proficiency and meet the following requirements or equivalents: at least 75% in Math 30-1 or Math 30-2; at least 75% in English Language Arts 30-1; at least 75% in Physics 30; and at least 75% in Biology 30, Chemistry 30, or Science 30. Applicants must also achieve a mark of at least 50% in the School of Health and Public Safety's Entrance Testing Process. SAIT accepts high school course equivalents for applicants educated outside Alberta. Applicants educated outside of Canada must demonstrate English language proficiency and provide proof of meeting program admission requirements through an international document assessment.
