Program details

Overview

Radiation Oncology is a three-year Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) technical program at Dawson College that trains students to safely use ionizing radiation to treat cancer and other conditions under a physician's direction. The curriculum combines patient care, treatment planning and clinical practice with small-group instruction and a month-long summer internship after the first year, followed by a full clinical training stage in hospital settings during the third year. Students work with equipment that simulates hospital radiation-therapy environments before entering clinical placements. The program is accredited by EQual Canada, and graduates are eligible for provincial certification with the Ordre des technologues and may pursue national certification with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists. The program suits students interested in oncology, medical imaging and direct patient care. Admission requires Secondary V mathematics, Secondary IV environmental science and technology, an interview, and 24 hours of volunteer work in a care-centred environment.
