Overview
This integrated-skills course is designed for French-speaking students to develop low-intermediate reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills for academic and workplace success. The course will build clear communication in mostly predictable, face-to-face and basic non-face-to-face contexts, strengthen short, accurate written communication and introduce basic self-editing skills, as well as level-appropriate listening and reading comprehension strategies. Through engaging activities, hands-on practice, and active participation, students will enhance their ability to convey simple ideas and short explanations and respond to both spoken and written material with confidence and clarity. They will also develop the skills to interpret somewhat less predictable but familiar written and spoken content. Students will enhance their ability to participate in pair and group activities and practise basic time-management and problem-solving language. By the end of the course, students will have improved their written and spoken communication with an emphasis on clarity and accuracy, while gaining confidence in their listening and reading abilities. Successful learners will be ready to progress toward English for Academic Purposes (EAP) studies at higher CLB levels.

Admission Requirements: Admission is via Collège Boréal's own Computer Systems Technical Support certificate, or via the OSSD/DESO, an ACE certificate, an equivalent secondary diploma from another province, or Adult Student status, together with one French credit (FIF3U, FRA3C, FRA3U, FIF4U, FRA4C or FRA4U, or equivalent). A computer studies credit (ICS3C, ICS3U or ICS4C/ICS4U, or equivalent) is recommended but not required. Applicants who do not hold the OSSD must instead submit evidence of English-language proficiency, though those completing the OSSD before classes start are exempt from this. The programme page does not publish its own scores, so Collège Boréal's institution-wide threshold for this credential level applies: CLB 6 / CEFR B2, met for example by IELTS Academic overall 5.5 (no skill below 5.0), TOEFL iBT overall 60, PTE Academic overall 40, or Duolingo English Test overall 95.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca (OCAS/SACO): Collège Boréal opens its admission cycle each October for programmes starting the following fall or winter, and for its limited-enrolment (contingenté) programmes the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, after which files are ranked first-come, first-served and may be waitlisted; accepted offers must be confirmed by 1 May 2027 with the tuition deposit due 15 June 2027. International applicants apply through the SIA/OCAS international portal and face no fixed deadline, but Boréal recommends filing at least three months ahead: 1 June for the autumn session and 1 October for the winter session. Admission outside contingenté programmes is otherwise rolling until seats fill. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
