Diploma in Techniques de diététique

Techniques de diététique (120.A0) is a six-term technical program at Collège de Maisonneuve leading to a Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC). It trains students to promote health through sound nutrition across three areas: nutrition, food-service management, and food technology. In nutrition coursework, students learn the fundamentals of healthy eating for different populations and how to adapt therapeutic menus to patient conditions such as diabetes or cancer, using menu-management software. In management coursework, students study food procurement, production, labelling, and distribution, cost control, staff supervision, and food-safety and sanitation practices. In food-technology coursework, students develop food prototypes in line with applicable food and drug regulations, prepare nutrition labelling, and perform quality control in an industrial setting. A large share of the specific training takes place in laboratories and on placements, including short observation placements from the first year in settings such as hospitals, long-term care centres, community organizations, and food-industry sites, followed by a longer internship near the end of the program. The program is also offered in a work-study (alternance travail-études) format, allowing students to gain paid workplace experience starting in their first year. Graduates can pursue MAPAQ certifications and work as food-service managers or food handlers. It suits students interested in health, food science, and food-service operations.
