Cert in Non-Destructive Testing Technician

College of the North Atlantic's Non-Destructive Testing Technician program is a 37-week certificate delivered on campus at the Port aux Basques campus. Students learn to inspect materials and welds for internal and surface flaws using core non-destructive testing methods, including liquid penetrant inspection, magnetic particle inspection, ultrasonic testing, and radiographic testing. Coursework covers the four core NDT disciplines and prepares students to write the National Certification exams administered by the Canadian General Standards Board, a credential required for employment in the field. Non-destructive testing technicians work across industries such as oil and gas, shipbuilding, manufacturing, and construction, checking pipelines, pressure vessels, welds, and structural components for defects without damaging the material being tested. The program combines classroom theory with hands-on laboratory practice using industry testing equipment. Because trainees must wear respirators during practical sessions, students with facial hair are required to be clean-shaven for fit testing and whenever a respirator is worn. Graduates are prepared for entry-level inspection roles and further certification levels within the NDT field.
