College of the North Atlantic's Powerline Technician program is a 35-week certificate delivered on campus, working toward Red Seal certification in the powerline technician trade. Students learn to build, maintain, and repair the overhead and underground power lines that carry electricity from generating stations to customers. Training covers erecting and maintaining utility poles, installing conductors and transformers, splicing cable, and diagnosing faults in electrical distribution systems, combining classroom instruction with hands-on line work using industry equipment and safety procedures. Applicants must hold a valid Class 05 driver's licence before entry, reflecting the program's requirement to operate line trucks and heavy equipment. Graduates are prepared for apprenticeship positions with electrical utilities, contractors, and municipal power authorities, working outdoors in all weather conditions to construct and maintain the electrical distribution infrastructure that serves homes, businesses, and industry across the province.
