Overview
The Practical Nurse Diploma prepares you to give professional care to individuals and families in a variety of health care delivery settings. Upon completion of your second year, you will be eligible to write the Regulatory Exam – Practical Nurse. You are then able to apply to be registered with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) in order to become licensed as a Practical Nurse. Throughout this program, there are clinical placements and in order to meet requirements for them, you may have to travel to regional areas in the East Kootenay.

Admission Requirements: English proficiency: all international applicants must submit an English test score regardless of country of education (a British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives licensing requirement) - either IELTS Academic with Speaking 7.0, Listening 7.5, Reading 6.5, Writing 7.0 and overall 7.0, or CELBAN with Speaking 8.0, Listening 10.0, Reading 8.0, Writing 7.0. Once admitted, students must pass Human Anatomy and Physiology for Practical Nurses (PPNP 101) with a minimum grade of 65% before progressing into Variations in Health 1, Health Promotion 1, Pharmacology 1, Integrated Nursing Practice 1 and Consolidated Nursing Practice 1.

For the 2027-28 academic year the general application window opens 1 November 2026, and applications received by 28 February 2027 get priority processing for Fall 2027 entry; admission is otherwise rolling with no fixed closing date. International applicants get a decision about two weeks after a complete application, with no separate published international deadline. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing is competitive-entry: its window runs 1 November 2026 to 15 February 2027, with final transcripts due 28 February 2027 for Fall 2027 admission. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
