Overview
This Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Animation, offered by Concordia's Faculty of Fine Arts, provides a foundation in the art of creative, independent frame-by-frame filmmaking. Students learn animated movement, stop motion, storyboarding, drawing, animated documentary, sound design and creative compositing, with a curriculum that emphasizes cross-pollination, innovation and experimentation across animation techniques. Students choose a Major in Film Animation (60 credits) or, for current Concordia students only, a Minor (30 credits). Full-time study takes three to four years (90-120 credits), with classes held on the Sir George Williams campus and admission only in the Fall term. Applicants submit a letter of intent and a portfolio to the department. The program suits students pursuing careers in independent, studio or experimental animation production.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry from Quebec CEGEP requires a DEC. Canadian high-school applicants need a C+ average and Canadian-curriculum course requirements (ACT/SAT not required); IB Diploma applicants need 26 points; British A-levels require at least two exams with DD results; university transfer applicants need a C average. A letter of intent and a portfolio submitted to the department are required. Concordia's institution-wide English proficiency minimum applies unless exempt: IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 70, or Duolingo 105. Fall applications (the only entry term) are due March 1, with February 1 recommended for U.S./international applicants.
