This Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology is a research-intensive program in which most students train in one of the department's four main research areas: behavioural neuroscience, clinical and health research, cognitive science, and human development and developmental processes. Students choose between a Research Option, aimed at careers in research, industry, or academia, and a Research and Clinical Training Option, which also provides professional training in the delivery of psychological services. The program requires a minimum of 90 credits and is thesis-based, combining supervised research with coursework relevant to the chosen research area and option. It typically spans four years, is offered at the Loyola campus, and admits students in the Fall term only, with the Clinical Training Option carrying additional undergraduate course prerequisites.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need a master's degree in psychology or its equivalent in a closely related discipline. The Clinical Training Option additionally requires completion of specific undergraduate psychology courses, including statistics, research methods, and psychopathology. Applicants must also demonstrate proficiency in English through standardized testing if their primary language is not English; the program follows Concordia's standard graduate English-proficiency requirement of IELTS Academic 7.0 overall with no band below 6.5, TOEFL iBT 95 with no section below 20, or Duolingo English Test 120. The Fall application deadline is December 1 for all applicants; Winter and Summer intakes are not available.
